The next meeting will be on the 21st May 2025 and our current book-of-the-month is Jane Harper's 'The Dry'. We meet monthly in the Hungate Explore Café at 7:30pm to discuss our ‘book-of-the-month’ and other books recently read (& occasional film etc.) by anyone in the group.
This is an informal group, there is no ‘membership’, just turn up when you can and our discussions are relaxed and personal – there is no formal analysis or prepared reviews of the book expected.
We do have an email group which you are welcome to join – we promise no spam!
The book-of-the-month is arranged by York Explore library Reading Group service which provides some 9 or 10 copies of a book selected from a list given by us.
These copies are loaned free to members (subject to availability) which means you don’t get burdened with buying a paperback or eBook every month. (Some members prefer eBooks or even have faded copies on their bookshelves from long ago).
The reading list is selected from a limited but very varied couple of hundred titles in the libraries’ reading group resources – the selection is made every six months or so from suggestions by members from that list but the order in which the books are made available to us depends on availability and demands from other reading groups.
Please note that although we are in the Café, we do not have access to their refreshment facilities but you are welcome to bring your own beverages.
Meetings tend to last between one and two hours.
Our meeting date is usually the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
